What is a mental health Treatment plan and how do i get one?

A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is written by a GP and entitles you to 10 Medicare rebated sessions per year.

Because Remote Therapy is a bulk-billed practice, you get the 10 sessions for free with us.

To get a MHTP you need to book in to see your GP and inform them you wish to get a “Mental Health Treatment Plan”.

Or, you can follow this link for instructions on how to book a free online GP consultation to get your MHTP within 24 hours: Click here to see instructions!

Your GP can address the referral to one of our therapists or just ‘Remote Therapy’.

Referrals can be sent via:

  • Email: admin@remotetherapy.com.au

  • Fax: 07 3319 6866

  • Medical Objects - either search for ‘Remote Therapy’ or one of the therapist’s from our team page.

What does it cost?

We are a bulk-bill practice which means $0 out of pocket if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

If you have used all of your free appointments for the calendar year, then we charge a fee:

Registered psychologist = $96.65
Clinical psychologist = $141.85

Our fees are the lowest anywhere and are about 50% of the national average.

To make a booking, email us at admin@remotetherapy.com.au with your referral documents (Mental Health Treatment Plan and GP letter) and we will get back to you with a booking form.

If you do not have a Mental Health Treatment Plan and GP letter, arrange to see your GP and inform them you wish to get a “Mental Health Treatment Plan”.

How do I make a booking?

Clients can cancel or rescehdule an appointment free of charge up to 48 business hours before their appointment.

If you cancel or reschedule with less than 48 business hours notice or do not attend an appointment, there is a fee equal to the bulk-bill rate at the time. As of November 2023 this rate is:

  • $96.65 for registered psychologists

  • $141.85 for clinical psychologists

Medicare does not pay for unattended appointment so even if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will have to pay the fee out of your own pocket.

If you cancel or reschedule 3 appointments within 3 months, even with 48+ hours notice and legitimate reasons, we will not be able to rebook you. Medicare does not pay for cancelled appointments and as a bulk-billed provider we cannot afford too many cancellations.

What is the cancellation / Reschedule policy?

You can cancel by clicking the link below and filling in the short cancellation form:

A Mental Health Treatment Plan entitles you to 10 free sessions per calendar year (between January 1st and December 31st).

However, a GP can only refer a patient for a maximum of 6 sessions at a time.

After the 6 sessions have been used, the patient must return to the GP and receive a referral extension letter. Typically the GP will send this letter directly to us.

This diagram from the Department of Human Services explains the referral structure:
